Back in March of 2014 Andy Sims was named the 6th Head Coach of Blue Valley North.  Prior to his arrival the Mustangs were 1-27 and had only 3 playoff wins in the program's 32 year history.  In the past 3 seasons Coach Sims has gone 24-8, which includes 7 playoff wins, a Conference Championship, a District Championship, 2 Regional Championships, a Sectional Championship and in 2017 won the 6-A Kansas State Championship.

Under Coach Sims guidance the Mustangs have rewritten almost every football record in the program history.

Off the field, the Mustangs have enjoyed just as much success, totaling 42 All – Conference players, 71 Academic All-Conference selections, 2 Simone nominee, 5 All Metro selections, and 4 all class/all state players.

The Mustangs have also sent over 21 players off to college during this 3 year time span.

The Mustangs are making just as many strides in the weight room.  Known for his strength and speed programs, Coach Sims’ Athlete Development Program is now in its 4th year and results have been amazing.

Overall the Mustangs have their strongest team in school history.  In four seasons, the Mustangs have broken over 346 Top-Ten Records, 250 Weight Class Records, 180 Top-Ten Speed & Agility Records and 175 Freshman Top Records.

According to Sims, the weight room is also a vital step in the rebuilding process and great football programs are built in the weight room. “I still believe that kids want to be a part of something great and want to challenge themselves every day,” said Sims. “What kid wouldn’t love to look at himself in the mirror at the end of a grueling practice or training session, with the sweat dripping off his face, knowing that no matter how hard it got, no matter how badly he may have wanted too, that he never broke, that he was pushed to his limit and never gave up?  That is how winners are made!  And who doesn’t want to be a winner? ”

Sims, who has experience at both the collegiate and high school levels, seems to have a knack for turning around struggling football programs into teams that are known for their explosive and up tempo offense and physical defenses. “You got to have fun playing football,” said Sims.  “Not only do we like to play fast on both sides of the ball, but we are very physical and play with a lot of swagger.”

Because of his time spent as a collegiate coach, Sims has become the top developer of collegiate talent in the Kansas City area.  Mustang football players alone have earned over $740k in the past two recruiting cycles and will top the $1 million dollar mark this season.  Since transitioning to the high school level Coach Sims’ players have earned over 3 Million Dollars in football scholarships.

Prior to North, Sims served one season as Defensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach for one season at Leavenworth High School.  In just one season, Sims’ defense set school records and he helped coach Running Back Jason Randall to 1st team All-Sunflower League honors and earn a D-I FCS scholarship to Missouri State as well as coaching Jordan & Jarred Donnellson who both signed at Butler CC. The Pioneers would also make the playoffs for only the 2nd time in school history in 2013.

From 2010 to 2013, Sims was the Head Coach at Excelsior Springs.  Under Sims’ leadership the Tigers went from a struggling 1-9 start to a 7-3 playoff team.  In addition to Head Coach, Sims also served as the offensive coordinator.  In 2012 the Tigers had the best start in 42 years, outscored its opponents by 37ppg and held opponents to less than 17ppg.  During Sims tenure the Tigers increased their scholarship recipients by 300%, saw their team GPA rise from 2.3 to 3.1 and set over 500 weight room records.

From 2008 – 2010, Sims served as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Liberty High school, which at the time was the one of the largest high schools in the state of Missouri. The previously struggling Blue Jay program was just 3-7 in 2007, but shot to a 7-3 record in 2008 and then an 8-3 record and playoff berth in 2009.  Again Sims would help athletes move on to the next level. The Blue Jay's WR Marcus Lucas and Punter Christian Brisner would sign with the University of Missouri.  Lucas is currently playing for the Carolina Panthers.  Other Blue Jays earning scholarships were Jack Bissonette to William Jewell, Jared Haferbier, Garret White and Derek Koon at Truman State University.  Haferbier now coaches at Fort Hays State.

Sims is also a proven college coach.  He has served two different stints as Linebacker’s Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at the University of Central Missouri from 2002-2007. During this time Mules compiled 35-16 record, a playoff berth and a share of the MIAA Conference Championship.

According to Willie Fritz, the Mules all-time winningest Head Coach and current Head Coach at Tulane “Andy is one of the hardest working and most knowledgeable coaches that I have ever worked with.”

During his time at UCM, Sims had the opportunity to coach several All-Conference, All-Region, All-American and future NFL players such as the Tennessee Titans All-Pro, Delanie Walker.

In 2005 Sims was named the Defensive Coordinator at Culver-Stockton College.  While at Culver-Stockton College Sims’ “Swarm & Punish” defense ranked #1 in every statistical category in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and finished the season as the #9 ranked Defense in the nation.

A graduate of UCM, Sims was an All-Conference Linebacker for the Mules.  During his senior season, he helped his team to a 10-2 mark and a 48-17 victory over the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the 2001 Mineral Water Bowl and ended the season ranked #17 in D-II.  Sims is now part of two UCM teams that are currently in the Mule’s Hall of Fame, once as a player and once as a coach.

Prior to attending UCM, Sims was a standout football player at Fort Osage High School for Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Boyce.  Despite missing his sophomore and junior season, after suffering two broken legs, Sims returned his senior year and was named 1st team All-Conference, 1st team All-District, 1st team All-Area, 1st team All-Metro and 1st team All-State his senior season.  Sims was also selected as the Examiner’s Defensive Player of the Year and invited to play in both the Missouri-Kansas All-Star and Lions All-Star games.

Sims holds a Bachelors in Education and a Master’s Degree in School Administration, both from the University of Central Missouri and is pursuing his CSCS National Certification in Strength & Conditioning.

Sims and his wife Allison have two beautiful girls, Audrey who is seven and Andrea who is four.
